Richard Liu

Richard Liu Qiangdong is the founder of JD.com (NASDAQ: JD), one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms, which generated $1.8 billion in system net revenue for its online shopping business in the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2016, and offers everything from clothing to electronics to home furnishings with over 140 million active customers, who purchased over 100 million items on the site during that period.

He previously founded Joyo.com Inc. (NASDAQ: JOYO) in 1999, a leading online B2C marketplace with over 80 million active customers at the time of its acquisition by Amazon.com.

Before founding Joyo, Mr. Qiangdong was a computer engineer in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and later worked as an entrepreneur in Beijing and Silicon Valley before moving his family to the United States.

Mr. Liu attended Tsinghua University in Beijing. He earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science and held an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where Liu Qiangdong was named an Eller Fellow.
